You can find us in Room Green - Iceland

A gorgeous day beginning to wake up as we left for the airport.

We left SFO at 9am on a Thursday and arrived in Reykjavik 6:30am Friday morning. Still groggy from the long plane ride and the time change, we hopped straight onto a Flybus to get us to the city. After another bus change at the terminal to transfer us to a smaller bus, we finally arrived at our hotel: Luna Hotel Apartments

Before the trip, the manager and I were already in contact and I knew that they weren’t going to be there that early yet. It’s a small hotel that doesn’t offer a 24 hour concierge, and in fact the apartments are all in different locations so it just seems like you’re renting an apartment for the weekend, not like a standard hotel. The manager told us that he would be there at 9am.

We hopped off the minibus at 8am, still wearing our San Francisco clothes. We immediately lugged our heavy luggage to the side of the road and slapped on some extra layers. Since we had around 45 minutes, we decided to walk around the block to explore.

We stumbled upon Snaps, a restaurant connected to another hotel. They were serving the usual continental type buffet style breakfast that is usually served to guests at the hotel. It was probably a bit strange for them when we showed up in our bulky outerwear lugging giant suitcases asking if we could join for the continental breakfast even when we weren't guests of the hotel.

The food was pretty good, the hot breakfast definitely warmed us up, and I always love my waffles and jam. We walked away thinking it was a nice little breakfast for a restaurant connected to a hotel. Little did we know that Snaps is actually a very popular restaurant at night with it also being voted The Best Goddamn Restaurant in Reykjavik 3 years in a row according to Reykjavik Grapvine.

Our apartment was cozy and charming, perfect ingredients for a winter getaway. The building was small enough that we didn't have room numbers indicating what room we were in, but instead colors. I found it very amusing to tell other guests that we were in room Green. The apartment we had was a cute one bedroom with a spacious living room and small kitchenette. The kitchenette was stocked with silverware, plates, a coffee maker, and a selection of tea bags, which I greatly appreciated and took advantage of. Almost every time we were back at the apartment, I made myself a warm cup of tea to chase the cold away.

The apartment itself was in a very central location within walking distances of supermarkets, bakeries, coffee shops, ATM's, and basically anything we needed. The manager was also very helpful in providing us with a map and suggesting restaurants and activities to try. Overall I was very satisfied with our stay at Luna, the location was great and we felt very assimilated with local life rather than hotel life.
